Indigo Textile Dyeing

€80.00

With Carlota Simó

This 4-hour indigo dyeing workshop takes place in Carlota Simó’s garden studio in Valldoreix, near Sant Cugat. Over the course of the afternoon, participants will learn about the indigo plant, its long cultural history, and the traditional process behind this ancient dye.

Together we will prepare the indigo bath and explore the unique rhythm of indigo dyeing—dipping fabrics into the vat, watching them emerge green, and observing the transformation into deep blues as the dye oxidizes in the air.

Using simple, natural tools, you’ll work on a cotton bandana (included) and may also bring two to three personal pieces from home to dye. Carlota encourages participants to explore, experiment, and let go of expectations. Beyond learning a technique, the workshop is an invitation to slow down and experience the act of creating together—where attention, quiet focus, and shared curiosity become part of the process.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with several indigo-dyed pieces and the experience of having taken part in a slow, hands-on practice rooted in craft, nature, and collective creativity.

Living in rural Catalonia, she combines her artistic practice with gardening, creating naturally dyed quilts and leading workshops that explore craft, plants, and the collective act of making.
